About Zones

The Corbett Tiger Reserve is an enormous jungle where safaris are organized.For the convenience of visitors and streamlining tourism management park is divided into following six ecotourism zones :-

Dhikala Bijrani
Jhirna Sonanadi
Durgadevi Dhela

The Dhikala Safari zone open on 15th of November every year; Durga Devi and Bijrani Zone from 15th of October, where as Jhirna and Dhela remains open through the year depending on the weather conditions.

For the convenience of visitors and streamlining tourism management Corbett Tiger Reserve has been divided into six mutually exclusive tourism zones, each having separate gate for entry.

  • Day visit to all zones are strictly regulated and only a limited number of vehicles are permitted entry during each morning and afternoon.
  • Permits for day visits to the Sonanadi ecotourism zone can be obtained from the visitor reception center at Kotdwar.
  • Permits for day visits to other zones are available online on our official website.
  • Visitors are advised to acquaint themselves with gate timings and arrive well before the designated time to avoid any inconvenience.
  • Private vehicles are not allowed entry for tourism purposes and visitors use specially designed vehicles registered with CTR for their visits. Day visits to the Dhikala ecotourism Zone are only permitted by specially conducted buses.
  • Visitors can also enjoy elephant rides at Bijrani and Dhikala ecotourism Zone.
  • Canteen facilities are available at Dhikala, Bijrani and Gairal. At other locations, kitchen facility is provided.


Dhikala Forest Rest House

Located at a distance of about 35 km from the Dhangadi Gate, Dhikala forest rest house is located right inside the core area of Corbett Tiger Reserve, granting a more real experience of the wild. Moreover, being placed at the fringes of the Patli Dun valley (which gets dissected by Ramganga River at various points), Dhikala offers mesmerizing views of nature, making this more than a century old forest rest house, a very interesting place to find accommodation in.



Elephant Ride

Elephant rides are offered at Dhikala, Khinanauli, Bijrani, Gairal and Jhirna during mornings and evening so that tourists can get a closer view of the jungle, its wildlife, and landscape. Elephant rides offer a unique experience There are watchtowers at Dhikala, Phulai and Jhirna, and several machans near Dhikala, Bijrani and Kothirau to facilitate the viewing of wildlife. During evenings the lodgers at Dhikala and Bijrani can enjoy films on wildlife that are screened to provide an educative entertainment to visitors. Dhikala also has a well-stocked library, which has a fine collection of books concerning wildlife and general topics.


Corbett Museum

Corbett Museum is located at Kaladhungi, Corbett Museum is in a heritage bungalow of Jim Corbett, the renowned environmentalist, hunter as well as a front runner in the tiger conservation. This magnificent museum brings to the forefront of memory the life and activities of this wonderful personality who not only killed several Man eating Tigers and Leopards of Kumaon hills but also worked hard for the conservation of Wildlife. Corbett Tiger Reserve, stands today as a brilliant example of his efforts to save the abode of Wild animals.

Visitors can move in registered vehicles inside the park area after making entries at the respective gates. Tourists are not allowed to use their private vehicles inside the park. Walking or trekking inside the park is not allowed except at certain designated places. Specific trails for vehicles are maintained to enable visitors to watch wildlife at Corbett. Driving off track it is not allowed for reasons of safety. It is to be noted that driving after sunset is strictly prohibited in the park.
